Personal Profile: Lhakpa Norbu Sherpa

Lhakpa was born in the village of Namche Bazar (3400m). Namche is called the 'Gateway to Everest' and is host to the headquarters of the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park. His father died on the mountain in 1982 when he was just 7 years old.

Lhakpa started his guiding career in 1996 and has gone on to lead numerous trekking and climbing expeditions, not only in the Khumbu region, but all over Nepal. In the past he has worked with the USA based trekking Company "Mountain Madness" but nowadays mainly co-ordinates his own trips (as well as teaming up with Hebridean Pathways).

Mountaineering background:
Lhakpa has summited Everest 3 times and is on the mountain again this spring (2007). Following this expedition he is going on a trip to K2 - the 2nd highest mountain in the world. He has also climbed Cho Oyu (8188m), Shishapangma (8013m), Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Mera Peak, Lobuche Peak and many other trekking peaks.

In addition to his wide experience Lhakpa has attended mountaineering Courses including: Guide training, Basic Mountaineering, Advance mountaineering, Rescue training and Basic Medical training

He is also involved in high altitude filming, having worked as a cameraman on Everest for Discovery Channel in 2004 and GMA Network (Philippines) in 2005. Footage can be made during any expedition and provides a great way to remember your trip forever!
