Cuillin Munros

Although the central focus of this six-day course is to ascend all twelve Munros on Skye, there will be an on-going theme aimed at providing the skills necessary for safe and enjoyable travel across all mountainous terrain. Topics such as route selection, navigation and non-technical rope-work will be covered during the course.

Cuillins

A typical itinerary is shown below - however there are many variations dependent on weather and fitness. All being well we climb the 12 Munros in 5 days so the 6th day gives us a reserve. Although previous mountain experience is preferred, it is not essential as all the Skye Munros are attainable by relatively fit and determined walkers - with a head for heights!

Day 1 - Sgurr nan Gillean, Am Basteir, Bruach na Frithe

Traverse of the northern section of the ridge from Sligachan, involves some easy scrambling and moving together whilst roped. May include an ascent of the Basteir Tooth.

Day 2 - Sgurr nan Eag, Sgurr Dubh Mor, Sgurr Alasdair

Start from Glenbrittle, takes in the highest peak on Skye and some of the most spectacular glacial scenery in Britain. Descent of the Great Stone Shoot.

Day 3 - Sgurr a Mhadaich, Sgurr Ghreadaidh

Start from the Youth Hostel in Glenbrittle. An easier day although it involves moving together and exposed ridge walking. Great views of Loch Coruisk.

Day 4 - Sgurr Mhic Choinnich, Sgurr Dearg (Inaccessible Pinnacle), Sgurr Banachdich

Highlight of many a clients trip as the Inn Pinn will be climbed. Involves exposed ridge scrambling and abseiling.

Day 5 - Blaven Traverse (Clach Glas)

This awesome mountain affords many routes of ascent, and dependent on conditions (weather and fitness), a traverse of Clach Glas will be the main goal. Exposed scrambling with some easy rock climbing makes this a superb outing and finale to the course.
